Book Review: The Manual by Steve Santagati

Going Inside The Male Mind

Nov 16, 2008 Christina Martinez

Steve Santagati, the ultimate bad boy opens up on relationships, sex, life, love, and every other tidbit that makes men tick.

The Manual is just as clever and candid as the play-on-words title suggests; a written manual on the way men think, act and date. Santagati, former model, serial dater and true bad boy come clean, gives women insightful information into the male mind using examples from his own dating experiences.

The Manual encourages women to get to know the men they date and accept and acknowledge the way that they think. While it is characteristic for bad boys to be secretive, Santagati opens up and lets us know what all bad boys are thinking. He explains why men do the things that they do and why, after all the fuss women make over them, they are so appealing.

Santagati is witty, charming, and best of all, brutally honest in the sweetest way possible. Santagati becomes the readers’ dating guru, confidant and friend. His openness is as candid as it is insightful, which is enough to spark any woman’s interest.

Santagati writes on six topics: The Heart of The Bad Boy, Inside The Male Mind: How He Sees You, The Hunt: The Boys on the Town, Boy Meets Girl, Mating, and ends with a Q&A section. The chapters that follow are short, concise, and pleasantly entertaining.

His opening line sets the tone for all 250 pages.

“The pages you are about to read reveal everything that you need to know to successfully date and have relationships with men. I’m going to tell you how men think, date, and mate, so that navigating the dating world will become as easy as changing a light bulb: just toss out the old one, grab a new one, and screw him…in.”

Always a fan of the females, the narrator is on the women’s side. Santagati lets us into the world of men and places us in their head and their shoes. Steve’s writing style is quirky and cute, which makes him charming, even in writing.

While Santagati is not a certified psychologist, he considers himself a relationship expert simply because he spent most of his life dating women and learning from his relationship experiences. This ‘field research’ is what puts him a step ahead of the game in dating knowledge and expertise. While his tips and advice may not work in every situation, or pertain to every guy, many are insightful and amusing.

This book is for every woman who wants to better understand her man and improve her dating and sex life. Whether you are digging into this book for research or just for a few laughs, The Manual is set to please and, as Steve would be happy to know, will leave you smiling and satisfied by the end.
