Beijing International Book Fair 2009One of the World’s Top Four International Publishing Events
Beijing International Book Fair, September 3-7, is the world's fourth most important book fair and attracts publishing professionals and book enthusiasts alike.
The 16th Beijing International Book Fair (BIBF), held from September 3-7, 2009, is organized by the China National Publications Import and Export Corporation (CNPIEC). Its main goals are to expose books from China to an international audience and to introduce international titles to the Chinese market. With English being mandatory for all school children from an early age onward, English language titles lead the enormous growth of the Chinese book market. BIBF 2008 saw 1,390 exhibitors, among them more than 500 international ones from 51 countries, and 200,000 visitors – less than the previous year because the fair had to move to Tianjin, 60 km outside of Beijing, to accommodate the Olympics. This year, however, the fair is back in Beijing and an increased attendance is expected.
