Valentine's Day is a spring holiday but a warm read is always a good idea. Love stories. Hero tales. Sexy adventures. Read this holiday book list.

It's spring and the first spring holiday is here - Valentine's Day. It's a terrific time to take some time out of the fast pace of a busy life and curl up with a good book. Book lists abound on every topic under the sun and this one provides a set of romances, love stories, hero adventures and non-fiction for anyone who needs a bit of a time out.

Whether you're celebrating Valentine's Day alone or with your favorite significant other, peruse this list and pick a great title. A trip to the local book store comes next. The shopping list should include a book or two, some great coffee or tea, a few scones or cookies and maybe a snuggly new throw or afghan for the sofa.

It can all be bundled into a pretty basket and tied with an impressively luxurious scarlet bow. This little package makes a wonderful gift for spouse, friend or lover and a very nice self-gift, too. set a date and crack open a great book. Here, then are the titles recommended for those early spring/late winter days when it isn't quite fine enough to head outdoors.

  1. Love Story by Erich Segal - The definitive love tome of the 1970s. Guaranteed back then to bring tears to the stodgiest - and the story holds up now. A quick read. Or make popcorn and rent the movie.
  2. Wuthering Heights by Emily Bronte - Her only novel. A bit ponderous but certainly an immersion in love.
  3. The Secret Life of Bees by Sue Monk Kidd - A totally wonderful story of a young girl learning to love herself and all she is capable of becoming. Beautiful.
  4. Ghost with Patrick Swazy and Demi Moore - Ok. It isn't a book. But man oh man is this the one for a romantic interlude.
  5. Clifford's First Valentine's Day by Norman Bridwell - A child's level book about a puppy so small he fits in Emily's pocket. He gets into tons of trouble and is just freakin' cute.
  6. The Hunt for Red October by Tom Clancy - A breathtaking, all absorbing adventure story that cannot be put down until it's over. Stock up on chocolate, cocoa and fire wood then read away.
  7. Best Loved Poems of Jaqueline Kennedy Onassis by Caroline Kennedy - Beautiful poems compiled by Ms. Kennedy in tribute to her mother. Each carries an intimate introduction by Caroline Kennedy. This is really fine.
  8. Other People's Love Letters (150 Letter You Were Never Meant to See) by Bill Shapiro - Interesting. Unique. A colleciton of emotion expressed by people in love - and by some who were closer to hate.
  9. The Complete Idiot's Guide to Amazing Sex 3rd Ed. by Sari Locker - This should always be read with a partner. A close, very close partner.
  10. Knight in Shining Armor by Jude Devereaux - Arguably one of the first high quality chick lit features. A time travel story of a young woman who finds herself face to face in present day New York, with an armor clanking knight. This is a love story to top them all. A dish.

Most local book stores carry these books or they can be found at online book sellers or by visiting book trading sites like Swaptree.com. There'a another list of good books at WomenDaybyDay.com
