E-book writing involves choice of a topic, collecting and organizing information, and presenting the information in an interesting manner.

E-books provide a great opportunity for internet marketers to become authors and publish their books. While there are the issues of finding a publisher and distributing a hard copy book, there are no such constraints while writing your own e-book and publishing online. Here are some steps that a beginner can follow to write his first e-book.

1. Choose an Interesting Topic

Writing anything for that matter is a lot of fun and writing e-books especially can turn into a profitable venture. E-books can be used for a variety of purposes including a free gift in return for an email address of the prospect or a full fledged product to be sold. However, one must choose an interesting topic for the e-book to be accepted by the target audience. It is important that the e-book writer identifies an appropriate niche and then proceeds to write the contents.

2. Gather and Organize Information

E-books are generally written to fulfill the information requirements of the target audience. Hence, effort must be taken to collect the right information, collate it and then organize it in a presentable format. Information can be gathered from various sources like one’s experience, books, discussions with experts and the internet. The e-book author must organize the information in the form of chapters containing headings and sub headings.

3. Write E-book Contents

E-book writing can be a source of joy for the author since it allows him to be creative and present his thoughts, ideas and opinions to his audience in the manner he likes with no one to question his style and approach. He is fully responsible for the response that he may receive from his audience. Although there are no formal rules for writing e books, one can consider common sense etiquettes like writing in an easy to understand language without the use of technical jargon. One must also ensure that there are no obvious errors in terms of wrong information or offensive comments. It is also possible to compose the e-book with free e-book writing software. However, one must evaluate the quality of such tools before using them.

4. Improve the Presentation

A great way to improve the quality of the e-book is to include a variety of relevant pictures and images along with the text. There are several sites from where one can procure royalty free images which can be freely used in the e-book. This will give the e-book a different charm and look. Apart from this, one should also ensure that a good readable font is used for the text and can experiment with different fonts for the headings and sub headings.

5. Develop the Distribution Channels

Once the e-book is ready, it must be distributed through a number of channels so that it reaches the right target audience. E-books usually spread through the viral mechanism wherein one person shares it with another he knows is interested in the same subject. One way to distribute the e-book is by sending an email to one’s list of prospects. Another way is to make the e-book available for download from one’s site. Yet another way is to advertise the e-book using pay per click or classified ads.

Given the viral possibilities and the ease of writing, the e-book is a powerful tool in the hands of any internet marketer.
