The Launch of Albion by Elaine BousfieldAll Hail the Arrival of First Jewel Keepers Novel
Elaine Bousfield chose the Chorlton Arts Festival as the perfect way to launch her first young adult novel, Albion. It is the first offering in the Jewel Keepers trilogy
The launch took place in an upstairs room in the Lloyds pub in Chorlton. Although not what you would expect as a literary venue the room was only a short distance from the Chorlton Bookshop who supplied the copies of Elaine’s book for purchase. An Introduction to ElaineThe format of the launch was informal and friendly. The small upstairs room was packed to capacity with a lot of people only able to find standing room. A remarkable turnout for someone’s first novel release! Elaine seemed confident and calm as she took centre stage to introduce her first literary offering. She started with an introduction to herself as a writer. What a lot of people forget is that writing is a business, each novel requires a certain degree of research and every detail that isn’t reliant upon the imagination requires verification. Elaine pointed out that in writing Albion she had been inspired by a short Archaeology course ran by Manchester University. This course gave her an interest in the Celtic history of Britain and although this provided the foundation for her first novel a lot more research was required to add credence to it. Although Elaine has now achieved publication she was keen to point out that she has been writing for a number of years with no success. Writing is often seen as a hobby rather than a realistic career and this was also the case for this particular Writer. Albion – Book One Elaine shows an obvious passion for her writing and became extremely animated when describing her process of writing and her subsequent publication by Kings Hart Books (an Oxford based publishing house). As part of the launch she read the first chapter of her novel to an enraptured audience. The opening of the novel was very dark and almost adult in nature but was a good way of capturing the imagination of those in attendance and ensuring that a large number of them made their way to the front to purchase the book. A Second OfferingElaine is currently working on the second book in the trilogy, entitled Mona. She confirmed that she does have a plan for the story arc of Mona but she is open to any changes which come along in the writing process. Elaine was more than willing to sign all copies of her new book which were purchased on the night and to answer any questions posed by her captivated audience. Albion is available from Amazon, Waterstones and all good bookshops. Coming soon…. an interview with Elaine Bousfield
