The World Book Fair from May 29-June 7, 2009 in Singapore is a book lover's delight that attracts more than 500,000 visitors every year.

World Book Fair 2009 marks the 24th year of Singapore’s biggest book event. With over 300,000 book titles and more than 200 exhibitors from around the world, it is a must for anyone wanting to gauge the Asian market.

Highlights of the World Book Fair 2009

Organized by Marshall Cavendish Business Information and the Singapore Press Holdings, this annual nine-day event has something for everyone as it addresses adults and children alike, publishing professionals and readers, as well as local and international visitors with seminars and talks in English and Mandarin. Some of the presentations planned this year are:

  • rights-trading events
  • educational talks and seminars
  • author events
  • comic art workshops on how to draw Manga characters
  • story-telling sessions for children
  • national school competitions in debate

World Book Fair 2009 Dates and Opening Hours

The book fair offers international visitors not only the chance to browse exhibitions of books in English and Chinese, but also of many regional Asian languages like the languages and dialects of India and Malaysia.

The World Book Fair 2009 will be held at the SUNTEC International Convention and Exhibition Centre on Level 4, Halls 402 to 404. Exhibit hours are from Friday, May 29th through Sunday, June 7th from 11 am to 10 pm daily. Admission to the book fair is free!

Things to See in Singapore

Book fair visitors who have come from far will surely try to squeeze in some time to visit the many attractions Singapore has to offer. Here’s a list of the Top Ten Singapore sights:

  1. watch butterflies, birds, insects or underwater creatures in one of the many animal parks;
  2. stroll around ethnic quarters like Little India, Chinatown and Geylang Serai;
  3. visit city islands like Kusu, Sentosa and Pulau Ubin;
  4. take a sightseeing tour and see the many landmarks and monuments of Singapore;
  5. visit one of the numerous museums like Art Retreat or the Chinatown Heritage Centre;
  6. spend a day in one of the parks, gardens or nature reserves like Bukit Tima or Chek Jawa;
  7. stop at one of Singapore’s many churches, mosques or temples;
  8. take a boat cruise from one of Singapore’s many quays;
  9. spend a day at a theme parks or shopping center or
  10. history buffs may want to visit one of the numerous World War II sites.

Regardless if one takes a trip just for the World Book Fair or visits the book fair while in Singapore for other reasons, it is an exciting event that brings publishers, distributors, authors and readers from all over Asia together.
